Corridor Digital – CGI examples

If you are interested in CGI then check out the videos from Corridor Digital.  This amazing filmmaking duo of Sam and Nico are based in LA and they make mostly humorous short videos that demonstrate different digital effects and then release them on YouTube.  They also post a “Making of” for each one in which they explain how it was done.

It is quite intriguing because their productions are sometimes pretty large scale and often with lots of guns – they do a lot of action sequences.  And they make one a week which is extraordinary.  Anyway, they are very impressive and interesting if you’re into CGI.  Check out their YouTube channel:

The “Making of” videos are on a separate channel:

They have over 1 million subscribers on YouTube and you can also find out more from their facebook page:

Très Courts Films

I really enjoyed Très Courts this year (thanks to everyone who organised the screenings!) and I looked up some of the films that I particularly enjoyed.  So in case you missed the festival you can see some of my favourites online:

Books on Directing

I’ve just been given two fascinating books on directing scenes by Christopher Kenworthy.  They have become classics and are widely used in film schools.

The first volume covers a wide range of different types of scenes and proposes 100 different camera and actor set-ups that help to communicate the story.

The second volume focuses on dialogue scenes.  Both will be an excellent source of ideas for workshops and for film projects.

Quentin

Guide to controlling exposure

Quentin has written a guide to controlling exposure on a video camera such as the club’s Sony EX1R.

It can feel a bit baffling because there are four different ways to control the brightness of the image – which should you use when?

The guide goes into some depth for those who want the details, but it also has a nice summary with a simple set of rules that will help make sense of all the knobs, switchs and dials!

Très Courts 2012 – 3 minute film festival

This is the second year in which members of the club will organise the Geneva screening of the Très Courts film festival.  This is 14th edition of this Francophone festival, featuring films less that three minutes long.  It is organised from Paris and the program is shown in 70 cities across the world from May 4th – 13th.

The Geneva screenings will be at the Arditi Auditorium and the program is repeated on Friday and Saturday night:

Friday 11 May 2012

  • 19h30 • Sélection Internationale 1
  • 21h00 • Sélection Internationale 2
  • 22h30 • Around “They dared”

Saturday 12 May 2012

  • 19h30 • Sélection Internationale 1
  • 21h00 • Sélection Internationale 2
  • 22h30 • Around “They dared”

Contact the committee if you’d like to help organise this fun event.  You can watch some of the films from previous editions on the festival web site.

Using the club’s Sony EX1R Camera

The workshop on March 14th focused on the club’s Sony EX1R video camera.  The notes on how to use the camera are here and the full user manual from Sony is available here.

In future weekly workshops we will return to the subject and go into some of the more advanced functions.
